ORIGIN
Leopard Geckos are native to Afghanistan, Pakistan and western india. They are found in areas that have rocky outcroppings and sandy clay-like soil.
HOUSING
For a single Leopard Gecko a 10 gallon aquarium is the minnimum size required (larger is better) for an adult.
Substrates that can be used are sand, papertowels, reptile carpet, slate tiles, or a mix of these items. However, sand can cause impaction which can lead to death, so if you do decide to use sand it is at the Geckos\' risk and certianly Geckos under 5 inches should not be keept on sand.
Leopard Geckos should have two hide boxes in their enclosures: one being a moist hide on the hot end of the tank and one being a dry hide at the cooler end of the tank. One way a moist hide can be made is by taking a gladware container, cutting a hole in the top of it and putting in moist paper towels or moist moss.
Tempretures should be 90F for the basking area with 75F at the cooler area. This can be achieved by using a Under Tank Heater, or by a red spot bulb.
FEEDIND AND WATERING
Water should be supplied by a low setting dish so the Gecko can see the water. Leopard Geckos can learn to accept food from a dish, fingers, or by use of hemostats (tongs, tweezers, plyers, etc) or if you do not wish to use those ways to feed the Gecko you can always feed them by dumping the prey in the cage. However, remove the prey after 30 minutes as insects can become preditory and start to eat on your Gecko pet.
Food that can be fed to them are: crickets, mealworms, superworms, butterworms, silkworms, pinkys (baby mice, but use only as a treat), waxworms (treat only), and other insects. If you are in doubt as to whether an insect is safe to eat don\'t feed it, or ask a fellow keeper of that species if it is safe for the Gecko to eat. Leopard Geckos should be fed every other every day as babies and every other day as adults although you could feed the adults every day if you wanted to. They should be fed as much as they will eat each time.
Supplement your Geckos food with vitimin powder twice a week, and calcium the rest of the time.
HOUSING MULTIPLE GECKOS TOGETHER
If you want to house to or more Leopards Gecko together they must have enough space, and so so for each additional Gecko add 12 x 8 inches of floor space per Gecko minimum.
Never house more then one male together as they will fight to the death.
Geckos housed together should be of similar size as smaller Geckos will be intimidated by the larger Geckos and the larger Geckos will hog all the food.
SEXING
Male Geckos are larger than females and have two buldges after the anal vent. Above the vent there will be a line of preclocial pores in a v shape. Females lack these qualities.
