Hamsters reward patience

When I decided that I wanted a hamster for a pet the first thing I did was go straight to my mum to ask but she said she didn\'t want a smelly hamster in the house!

I so desparately wanted a hamster that I tried everything to persuade my mum without success. However, finally my grandma said that I could keep one at her house.

She took me to the pet store that night and I was so excited! I just couldn\'t decide which hamster I wanted until I spotted a cute little one month old hamster sleeping in the corner all alone.

I felt sorry for her and so I picked her and then she was mine.

I named her Gizmo. I wasn\'t very patient though and I wanted to go straight ahead and hold her and play games with her. So immediately after getting her to her new home I picked her up, and she bit me.

I started wonder whether a hamster was the right pet for me but my grandma told me that she probably was nervous and unsettled and that\'s why she bit me.

So I waited about a week for her to settle and get used to me and sure enough when I picked her up that second time she was fine. I looked into her eyes and she just stared right back at me. That was when I knew that we were going to be great friends.

I just kept petting her and petting her and she fell asleep like a little baby, right in the inside corner of my elbow. She hasn\'t bit one person since!

All she needed was a little time to adjust and settle in her new home.

I think she is really smart, she responds to her name. She loves me and I love her. There\'s not another hamster that could ever replace my little syrian hamster Gizmo.

It just goes to show you that not everyone is as they seem in the beginning. Just give them a little time to adjust to their new home and get to know you.
